Tuition Fees: Affordable Premium Dance Training in Europe
Vocational training in the field of contemporary dance and performing arts costs significantly less in Germany than in other European countries or worldwide. The fees for the professional dance program at Balance 1 Academy are structured transparently:
- Annual Tuition Fee: € 5,040,-
- Monthly Installments: To ease your financial planning, fees can be paid in advance in monthly installments of € 420,- (due by the 10th of each month).
- Annual Examination Fee: € 60,-
- Performance Fees (3rd Year Only): A total of € 160,- (€ 80,- for „Admission to Dance“ in March, € 80,- for „Graduate Students Choreographies“ in September), due before the performance.
- Costumes & Dancewear: Costs for personal dancewear and performance costumes are not included in the tuition.
- Living Costs: Students are responsible for securing accommodation and covering daily living expenses in Berlin.
Health insurance during dance studies
Health insurance in Germany is obligatory for everyone. In case you don’t come from Germany you will have take care of your health insurance in advance.
We can refer you to professionals who can advise you on getting a german health insurance at student rates free of charge. Good to know: For accidents that occur on the Balance 1 Academy premises or on the direct way to and from the academy (commuting accidents), you are fully covered by accident insurance through our academy with the VBG (Verwaltungsberufsgenossenschaft).
Public transport
As a regular student at our conservatory, you are eligible for the discounted trainee/student ticket from the Berlin Public Transport Authority (BVG) upon presentation of your student ID (Schülerausweis II).
Depending on where you live, the Deutsche Bahn (german railway) Deutschlandticket may also be a worthwhile and affordable alternative for you.
Student Finance
Tuition financing
You always need to check in your home country whether student finance or student loans for studies at universities or institutions of higher educations are available. This will vary from country to country.
The student finance in Germany called BAföG in is available for students with a german nationality only. In some cases it could be possible to apply for BAföG without having a german nationality, e.g. if you have lived in Germany already for a certain period of time or if one of your parents has been working in Germany for a certain period of time.
For swedish dance students: it is possible to apply for a student loan from CSN (central student aid board in Sweden)
For finnish dance students: you can apply at Kela for financial aid and can get 9 months of financial aid per academic year while attending your higher education.
For danish dance students: unfortunately it is no longer possible to apply for the state educational grant of SU in Denmark for any of the private acknowledged dance institutes in Germany (as well as in Denmark). The SU grant is only available for studies at universities and accredited higher education institutions.
For Eurasia dance students: you will have to work parttime beside school to help finance your stay in Germany. When you start your fundraising with the help of our partner Eurasia Dance Project International Network, keep in mind the money will not be enough to cover the costs for housing, maintainance, health insurance and tuition fees!
Part time job and regeneration
The class schedules at Balance 1 Academy are released well in advance, so you can flexibly schedule part-time jobs before or after class, as well as on weekends. As an aspiring professional dancer, however, you must take care of your body. Always set aside at least one full day off per week for physical recovery and avoid working nights so you can perform at your best during the day. It’s extremely difficult to cover all your living and training expenses solely through part-time jobs, and doing so puts your health at risk.
