The role of nutrition and conditioning in dance
Dance is physically demanding, requiring strength, endurance, and flexibility. To support your body's needs, proper nutrition and conditioning are essential. A well-balanced diet that includes a variety of nutrients is crucial for energy, muscle recovery, and injury prevention. Hydration is also vital to maintain optimal performance. Additionally, incorporating conditioning exercises into your dance training routine can help build strength, increase flexibility, and improve overall fitness. Strengthening the core, working on balance, and focusing on specific muscle groups can enhance your dance abilities and reduce the risk of injury. Remember, your body is your instrument, and taking care of it through proper nutrition and conditioning will allow you to dance to your fullest potential.
Some answers to frequently asked questions
-
How much previous experience do I need to have? I have never danced ballet, for example.
The participants in the intensive program have completely different levels of previous dance experience. On average, the level is at a beginner's level with previous knowledge. Others have a lot of dance experience, but not yet as much technique. Still others come from other professions such as yoga teacher etc.
You are therefore welcome to apply, even if you do not have previous experience in all styles.
If you are already technically advanced and are wondering whether you might be underchallenged in the program, it would be worth considering applying for our 9-month Pre-Education. For this, more previous knowledge is expected and you will also have to take part in an audition.
-
When exactly is the application deadline?
We do not specify an application deadline. Since many participants come from different places or countries, you have to decide for yourself what lead time you need to participate in the program.
As soon as we receive your application, we will let you know which medical examinations you should have before signing the contract. You will need time to make an appointment with the doctor and receive the results. If there are any deficiencies, it may take some time to treat them. We will also be happy to help you with the evaluation of the laboratory results.
Furthermore, you will have to find a place to live if you are not from Berlin or even from another country. We therefore advise you not to send your application too late so that you can prepare everything in the best possible way.
-
Which subjects are taught how often and what is the weekly timetable? When exactly are the vacations?
As soon as you have registered for the program, we will send you the access data for the internal member area. There you will find all the timetables and vacation times.
A normal week usually looks like this:
2x Ballet
2x Modern
2x Jazz Dance
2x Contemporary Dance
1x Contemporary Floor Work
1x Body Conditioning
-
Are there exams or performances at the end of the DIP?
We don't hold an exam in the traditional sense. We are not planning a big theatrical performance either. During the 5 months, we work on improving our technique and gaining a better understanding of the body. At the end of the DIP, we organize a public final showing to which friends, relatives and acquaintances can be invited.
-
By when do I have to have made the first payment? Can I transfer the total amount immediately to secure my place in the DIP?
You only have to transfer the contributions when the DIP actually begins. It is sufficient if the amount is received by the 10th of the month. Transferring everything immediately to secure your place makes little sense, as you need the time to complete your preparations, as explained above.
-
Is there a dress code?
No, there is no specific dress code for the DIP. You can use any dancewear you already have. If you are still missing something, this can be discussed directly with the dance teachers at the beginning of the DIP.
-
Can I receive the contacts of the other participants or information about them before I register so that I know whether I fit into the group?
Unfortunately, this is not possible for both data protection and organizational reasons. We always set up a What'sApp group shortly before we start and get everyone's permission beforehand. With such an intensive time that the group will spend together, you can expect the participants to grow close together. The academy and your group will feel like a second home to you.
