Audition application form for professional dance program in Berlin

In person audition and Video audition possible

Application period opens annually beginning of November

Thank you for your interest in applying for the professional dance training program at Dance Academy Balance 1.
To ensure a smooth application process, please read the following information before submitting your application form.
Please also familiarize yourself with the admission requirements before applying.

In person dance audition

If you choose to have a personal audition, you will participate in the regular ballet and modern/contemporary training sessions (2 x 90 minutes) of the training classes on selected Fridays.

Afterwards, you will present a one- to two-minute solo that best showcases your natural and individual movement qualities.
Your solo should be something you have prepared independently beforehand; it can include elements from combinations learned in a dance class.

Please wear tight-fitting dance attire during the practical part so that your body is clearly visible to us.

Following the practical part of the dance audition, there will be a group information session about the dance training program, where you can ask any questions you may have.
Finally, we will hold short personal interviews with all applicants, so that we can get to know each other better.
We can't predict the exact time the audition will end, as this always depends on the number of auditionees and the length of the individual interviews.
Please let us know in advance if you have to catch a train or flight.

An in-person audition offers you the advantage of experiencing the atmosphere at our academy and also provides the opportunity to speak with current students.

Video audition

If you are unable to attend any of the auditions in Berlin in person, you can also apply for the dance training program via video audition. The video audition is free.

Please wear close-fitting dancewear for the video and ensure that your entire body is clearly visible at all times.
The video should be steady and not exceed 10 minutes in length.

Please briefly introduce yourself at the beginning of the video so we can get a personal impression of you.

What is your previous dance experience? How long have you been dancing? What are your favorite dance styles? Are you open enough to explore different dance styles? Do you believe you are driven enough to persevere through the demanding training of a professional stage dancer? Why do you want to become a professional dancer? Do you already have any ideas about which direction you would like to pursue in your dance career?

Afterward, we would like to assess your technical skills.

It's sufficient if you show us the sequences at the barre as well as in the center from one side. You can, of course, choose your favorite side for this. If you don't have access to a ballet studio, try to clear a room and use a chair as your barre. Perform the jumps in place as much as possible. In your choreography, you'll simply need to make the steps a bit smaller. But despite the smaller room, try to bring the same energy as if you could fully execute the solo in a dance studio. Even if it feels strange to you, we can still properly assess your work.

Video Timing Guideline and Upload

What we would like to see on the video:

Personal introduction ca. 1-2 minutes
Barre work approx. 3 minutes: pliés, tendus, adagio, grand battements
Center approx. 3 minutes: Pirouettes en dehors and en dedans, small jumps, assemblés, jetés
Solo  approx. 2 minutes: you may choose the style which you feel represents you the best

You can upload your video on platforms such as YouTube or Vimeo and send us the appropriate link to open it. You may also send your Video via WeTransfer. In any case, please register first (please scroll down for registration), choose "Video audition" and then send us your video right after.

Video audition application deadlines

We accept video auditions on the 15th of each month starting in November.
If you need to move to Berlin for your studies, this gives you ample time to plan your relocation.

If you need to apply for a student visa to study in Germany, you should allow at least six months, or even longer, for the visa application process.
German embassies are overwhelmed with applications, which is why many students don't receive their visas in time for the start of their studies, delaying the start by a year.
Therefore, we recommend submitting your video as early as possible.

The deadline for the final video application round  for Visa applicants is March 15, 2026 (without guarantee that this timeframe will still be sufficient for application and visa issuance).

Feedback

You will receive your feedback about a week later.
Your video audition can save you traveling costs, long journeys and overnight stays.

Reflection period and personal visit

If you have been accepted, you will be given a reflection period to decide whether you would like to start the training at our academy. You can always contact us for all further arising questions. You will also have the opportunity to visit us again in person to get to know the atmosphere at our academy even better. Regardless of whether you have auditioned in person or sent us a video audition.

You need to decide whether you can imagine moving to Berlin for your dance training. Berlin is a very big and exciting city that attracts many people, but it is not the right choice for everyone. You also need to allow plenty of time for finding accommodation.

Please understand that we only offer the personal visits after you have been accepted at our academy and not before.
To allow for prior meetings, we offer open house days in October or November and in May.
