Miriam Drechsler-Schüler

- The New York & Global Connection: After completing her professional dance education in Berlin, Miriam moved to New York City and immersed herself in the global epicenters of modern contemporary dance, training in NYC, London, and Paris. She trained intensely with absolute legends of the dance world, including Judith Jamison (Alvin Ailey), Bill T. Jones, Takako Asakawa (Martha Graham), and Milton Myers.
- The Pioneer of Berlin's Contemporary Scene: Driven by her vision to unite this world-class knowledge, Miriam founded her school in 1993, which evolved into the state-approved Balance 1 Academy in 1996. She was one of the very first to bring internationally renowned dancers to Berlin for high-profile workshops. Her own contemporary classes in the Villa Balance became legendary—packed to the brim and deeply loved by students for their electrifying energy.
- The Commercial & 'Club Style' Pioneer: Long before Social Media turned commercial dance into a global phenomenon, Miriam was already ahead of her time. In the 90s, she created her own signature commercial classes, visionarily dubbed "Club Style". These high-energy classes were legendary—packed to the brim and deeply loved for bringing the raw, electric pulse of urban nightlife into the professional studio environment. Her Horton classes were always accompanied by live percussion.
- Her Mission Today: As the artistic heart of the Balance 1 Conservatory, Miriam translates this unique combination of rigorous modern techniques (Graham & Horton) and commercial versatility into a state-approved curriculum, shaping dancers who can dominate both the theater stage and the commercial industry.
